Watching the relief efforts in Haiti is definitely heart wrenching. The earthquake has caused a multitude of people complete agony. The thought of losing your everything in a matter of hours is incredibly painful. Just imagine losing your room, your house, your car and even some of your family. Natural disasters are always horrible to watch. It does serve as a reminder though. There are a few things in life that are valuable. People will and should always outweigh material possessions. Family and friends are on the top of that pyramid of precious possessions. Then the tangible objects force themselves underneath your loved ones. Another interesting thought is whether or not we are enjoying our lives to the fullest in case of some absolute disaster strikes tomorrow, will you in fact die a happy and content person? At times I know that I get easily caught up in the details and sacrifice the bigger picture. This most definitely occurred at an alarming rate when I was younger and was simply unable to see things as they are. As I have gained some knowledge and perspective, I continue to get warped up in the "little things" but of a different type it seems. I have in the past easily gotten bogged down by appointments and deadlines, but thankfully I have had those in my life remind me that what is for you will always be for you. While one shouldn't take this as an EZ pass to the journey of life, I do believe in the truth it holds. It's exactly like when you go into your favorite store, and low and behold there is that item you've wanted, and yes, there's one left..in your size! Is it sheer luck or was it predestined for you at some level? We might romanticize this idea of luck into destiny but at the end of the day whatever it is, you have gotten what was meant for you. I strongly believe that you should live life with the thought tucked away in the back of your subconscious that, yes today just might be my last day here. Have you done an array of good deeds? Have you expressed your love and appreciation for those who matter? Living life responsibly doesn't exactly sound like a raving party but it doesn't have to be a trip to the library either. Spending time with your most precious items and striving to achieve your goals is exactly how it could be. Signing up for the keeping it short and sweet version of life is exactly where we should initial.
Lying, cheating, and stealing might have been an adrenaline rush in our earlier years but now that we have reached at a higher level of maturity it doesn't seem to fit the bill. If you died tomorrow what would your eulogy sound like?
